Renowned for fostering connections among individuals through books and cultivating communities, Barnes & Noble has consistently stood at the forefront of the book industry, embodying a rich legacy and community spirit in the United States. In an era where digital books are gaining popularity, it is necessary to realign the brand’s emotional appeal to meet these evolving preferences effectively. Consequently, a central objective of this revitalized brand identity is to highlight Barnes & Noble’s humble, vigorous, and emotionally resonant value proposition while preserving its historical heritage and credibility, fostering empathy and resonance with their customers.

My primary mission here was to highlight Barnes & Noble’s communication pillars, emphasizing the joy of reading and personal growth and a marketing strategy that fosters inclusivity and community for their customers. These decisions resulted in creating a visual identity that focuses on creating a humanist touch through illustrations, custom typefaces, and building an experience bookstore designed to elevate customer interaction with books.

The Brand Storybook

All design printed & digital collateral, plus spatial graphics, were compiled into one book named “Brand Storybook” to give Barnes & Noble's customers a fragmented brand experience. Whether internal or external, every touchpoint unconsciously shapes the brand image of the user.
